about
The start of a new year is good time to clean out the cupboards and start fresh. So, here are two songs recorded during the sessions for the first two Seafieldroad albums, which didn't, in the end, find their way on to either. I'm not exactly sure why; they just didn't seem to fit. I'm not quite excited enough about either to put them out as an all new EP, so instead I'm sending them out into the world, in a low key sort of way, on a 'name your price' basis.
If you want to pay for these songs, great - the money will go towards funding another Seafieldroad album. Thank you for your support. If you want to download them for free though, I won't complain.
Anyway, about the songs...
Emily By The Seaside was inspired by a very hazy memory of the 1987 film Wish You Were Here, starring Emily Lloyd (hence the title), although the only thing it really has in common with the film is that the character in it is very young, lives by the seaside, and gets pregnant by accident.
What Happens Now is a cover of a song by one of my favourite bands, Kitchens of Distinction. The original version appears on their album The Death of Cool. Oddly Patrick Fitzgerald, Kitchens of Distinction's singer, now makes piano music that sounds slightly similar to mine, under the name Stephen Hero. I don't know whether he ever plays this song though.
Thanks for listening.
